Lt Gen (Ret) Vusumuzi Masondo
Lt Gen (Ret) Vusumuzi Masondo was appointed in November 2019, into the position of Military Ombud, by the President of the Republic of South Africa.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Certificate in Labour Relations from the University of Pretoria. He has a Certificate in Defence Management from the University of the Witwatersrand.
The new Military Ombud was born in Umtata in the then-Transkei on December 21, 1957. He left South Africa to join Umkhonto we Sizwe in 1976 where he served in various capacities until his return to South Africa in 1992 and integrated into the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in 1994.
After integration into the SANDF, the Military Ombud worked in various Formations within the Defence Force, namely, Personal Staff Officer (PSO) to former Chief of the SANDF, (General Siphiwe Nyanda); Director: Human Resource Maintenance and Senior Staff Officer: Personnel.
In December 2007, the Military Ombud was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed as Chief Director Force Preparation South African Army (SA Army).
Furthermore, in 2011, he was appointed Chief of the SA Army and later he was appointed to the position of Chief Corporate Staff, a position held until his appointment as the Military Ombud in November 2019.
