The SANDF MSDS 2027 intake is open for applications from 16 February to 27 March 2026, offering a two-year voluntary service program in the Army, Air Force, Navy, or Military Health Service. Applicants must be RSA citizens (18–22 for matriculants, up to 26 for graduates) with no criminal records or visible tattoos, requiring an APS of 18 or higher (excl. Life Orientation).

In terms of the Military Ombud Act, No. 4 of 2012, the Office is mandated to investigate written complaints lodged by current and former members of the Defence Force regarding their conditions of service, as well as complaints from members of the public regarding the official conduct of a member of the Defence Force, and a person acting on behalf of a member.
