The SANDF MSDS 2027 intake is open for applications from 16 February to 27 March 2026, offering a two-year voluntary service program in the Army, Air Force, Navy, or Military Health Service. Applicants must be RSA citizens (18–22 for matriculants, up to 26 for graduates) with no criminal records or visible tattoos, requiring an APS of 18 or higher (excl. Life Orientation).

Key Requirements & Details:

Age: 18–22 years (Grade 12), 18–26 years (3-year Tertiary Qualification/N6).
Citizenship: South African (no dual citizenship).
Medical/Fitness: Must be medically fit, pass drug tests, and meet minimum height (Males: 155cm, Females: 148cm) and weight (Males: 52kg, Females: 48kg) requirements.
Academic: Minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 18 (excluding Life Orientation). Mathematics and Physical Science are required for technical/specialised fields (e.g., Engineering, Technical Service).
Restrictions: No visible tattoos (face, neck, ears, legs, arms) when in uniform.

Application Process:

Application Forms: The official 2027 application form is available for free at SANDF regional offices or downloadable.
Submission: Completed forms must be hand-delivered to a Regional Recruitment Office or posted to the Department of Defence, Human Resource Division, Private Bag X976, Pretoria, 0001.
Documents: Attach a detailed CV, certified ID copy, and Grade 12 certificate (or interim results).

Important Information:

Deadline: Applications close on 27 March 2026.
Nature of Service: The MSDS is a 2-year voluntary service, not a guarantee of permanent employment, though opportunities for further contracts may exist.

In terms of the Military Ombud Act, No. 4 of 2012, the Office is mandated to investigate written complaints lodged by current and former members of the Defence Force regarding their conditions of service, as well as complaints from members of the public regarding the official conduct of a member of the Defence Force, and a person acting on behalf of a member.
